In Italy, access to timely healthcare for children is a growing challenge. Long waiting lists, fragmented services, and limited resources often mean that families must delay or forgo crucial care. This is particularly critical for neurodevelopmental conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), where early diagnosis and intervention can make a profound difference in a child’s life.
Thanks to the support of AUGMENTUM, the AUTentico Project by Welcomed is addressing these gaps, offering a coordinated, community-centered approach that combines medical care, psychological support, rehabilitation, and family guidance.

A New Model of Care
Welcomed’s clinics in Milan provide integrated services across pediatrics, child psychology, and rehabilitation. More than 100 healthcare professionals work together to ensure that each child receives personalised support.
The project expands its reach to ensure:
Early diagnosis of developmental disorders, including ASD
Timely, individualized therapy
Family support, including parent training and sibling programs
School integration, helping children thrive socially and academically
Solidarity in Action: “Visita Sospesa”
AUGMENTUM’s contribution powers Visita Sospesa, a unique initiative inspired by the “suspended coffee” tradition. Through donations and community partnerships, the program provides free medical visits, psychological counseling, and therapies to children and families who cannot afford care.
Since 2017, more than 52,000 free services have been delivered, directly benefiting over 6,500 children and families, with thousands more supported indirectly.
Supporting Families Beyond the Clinic
AUTentico recognizes that autism affects the whole family. The project provides:
Emotional guidance and structured parent training
Programs for siblings, helping them understand and manage complex emotions
Collaborative work with schools to ensure inclusion and support for children with special educational needs
Innovation and Accessibility
Emerging technologies also facilitate by the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems, digital tools, and adaptive materials. These advancements enhance the accessibility of healthcare settings and enable children with complex communication needs to engage more fully in therapy and everyday activities.
Building a Network for the Future
AUTentico works across clinics, homes, schools, and the community to:
Expand diagnostic and therapeutic services
Implement group therapies for adolescents
Train educators to identify developmental needs early
Foster community awareness and inclusion
The long-term vision includes high-intensity therapy centers, therapeutic holidays, and early observation programs in nurseries, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
A Partnership That Changes Lives
